We are an independent, non-profit organization since 1965 working in the Central Valley who share our culture and ceremonies with our Yokuts, Miwuk, Paiute relatives and beyond. Striving to improve the quality of our community by interacting with all relatives in a positive way to strengthen the family bonds that get tested in today’s world. Our ceremonies have been open to all our relatives and we consistently participate in the local indigenous community events through ceremony, song, dance, and healing.
Mission Statement

Toi-a-bin-a-tu-wum (Children of the Mountain) have connected with the peoples and communities from the four directions of Mother Earth. We have fostered cooperation, understanding, and synergistic partnerships. We strive to remember the past as to pass this on to all future generations, building each generation stronger than the last.
The traditional homelands of the Chalon are situated along California’s South Coastal Ranges. Extending east of Soledad, these lands encompass the Pinnacles National Monument area and continue several miles to the north, south, and east.
Some Chalon descendants have remained in or near the traditional homelands while others migrated elsewhere for their survival at the end of the mission period. Today a community of several hundred Chalon descendants live in and around Bakersfield, California.
The name “Chalon” identifies the people as speakers of one of the eight distinct languages of the Costanoan (Ohlone) family. Most of the Costanoan tribes shared similar coastal lifeways and cultural practices. Many of the villages were occupied year round; however, Chalon culture reflected their inland habitat, which required seasonal migrations for many.
The Chicken Ranch Tribe of Me-Wuk Indians historically flourished as a relatively moderate sized community of Me-Wuk Natives in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Our original hunting and gathering territories stretched from the Table Mountain area of New Melones to the rolling hills of the lower Red Hills area. The proliferation of the land by mining and logging operations over the past 150+ years, intertwined with with western settlers purchasing repatriated land in the area, the historical territory of our Chicken Ranch Tribe was reduced to their current 2.85 acre parcel just below the south eastern face of Table Mountain.
In 1985 we received our Federal Recognition as an autonomous Native American Tribe of California. In efforts to be economically self sustaining, we opened one of the first Native bingo halls in the state of California. Since 1985 we have expanded the bingo hall into our currently operating casino, medical clinic, and hotel, in addition to our new Tribal Government building which oversees operations and policy of the organization as a whole.
The Chicken Ranch Tribe of Me-Wuk Indians are dedicated to provide an empowering and enlightening environment for current and future generations of this Tribe, whilst acknowledging that our local non-native community is also a cherished vessel of friends, family, and cohorts.
